To get a visa for the Transsib can be costly, both in time and money. It's another part of the adventure. In our case included wake up early several days and be fast enough to enter the Russian consulate when the time is about to be over. Russia | Russia - Fares | China | China - Fares | Mongolia Russian visa es the most problematic. For up to date information, the best is to go to the embassy or visit the web. If you have a clear idea of your route, the take a tourist visa, that is cheaper. If you prefer not have a plan at all, then you will need a business one. In some countries (e.g. France) the process is even worse. If you have the chance, go to easier places like Spain or Belgium.
